Incheon 인천

On the 22st of November last year me and my friend Kathleen went on a little day trip to Incheon. It took us about an hour by subway to get there from Seoul. We had a full day planned starting with the infamous Chinatown, where lots of people are lining up for some kind of variation of Jajangmyeon (black bean noodles). To be honest I was never a big fan of the Korean version and would always, always prefer the one that my dad makes. We walked through all the little sights it had to offer and I showed Kathleen a few 'authentic' Chinese dishes which included a fried dumpling with chives and egg filling 韭菜盒子 and delicious hot pot. By accident we walked to Songwol-dong Fairytale village which is just a few steps away from Chinatown. The buildings are all very playful/colorful and decorated with childhood heroes. It felt like some kind of amusement park and it offered plenty of great photo motives. In the afternoon we took the subway again to go to Songdo Central Park, for those who watch Superman's return it might be a familiar scenery because of the cute Song Triplets. There we met up with my friend Guil and his friend, who drove us around to show us the ocean. We had chicken and beer for dinner and it was just a very fun and eventful day! I really enjoyed Incheon because it is less cramped than Seoul and has some beautiful spots such as the Central Park and it's also right next to the ocean. Thanks again to the lovely people that made it such a nice day!

Jeju last day

We concluded our Jeju trip by going to the O'sulloc Tea Museum and the Hallim Park which are both located on the west side of Jeju. The museum included a brief history of tea, a cafe where you could eat all kinds of things made out of green tea such as green tea ice cream or green tea cake and also had some beautiful green tea fields. People that know me well know that I'm a huge tea lover so going there was a really pleasant experience. After that we headed to Hallim Park which is a mixture between a botanical garden, a bird park and has aspects of a traditional Korean village.
Jeju island is by far my favorite place in Korea. The scenery was breathtaking and I can only imagine how nice the scenery must be during the spring or summer season. I think what really attracted me about Jeju was the combination of still being in Korea, meaning the food and people but also having the aspect of the nature which was lacking in Seoul. So Jeju, one day I will come back and visit you again!!

Jeju island day 3

The third day of our Jeju trip was by far my favorite. The weather was so marvelous so I was able to get away with only a thin shirt in the middle of November. We went to see Oedolgae Rock first which is at the shores right at the south of Jeju and the scenery there is just breathtaking. I loved seeing the clear aquamarine water and wherever I pointed my camera I had a picture perfect photo. We saw so many things that day after the Oedolgae Rock we drove to Jusangjeolli Cliff, relaxed at the beach, hiked up Sanbangsan and saw the sunset at this very cool beach with black sand.

Picture perfect scenery at Oedolgae Rock

Jusangjeolli cliffs- it is really interesting to see these pillars shaped in a hexagon shape all through nature

Jeju island day 2

I'm back from my semester abroad and I already want to go back. I really do miss Seoul!
Anyways stop the sobbing- I have tons of photos of my travels to share. So I will try my best to keep new blogposts coming these days. It has been more than 2 months since I have visited Jeju, it kinda feels like forever looking back at these photos. On the second day we drove to the southeast of Jeju. The first stop we were heading to was Seongsan Sunrise Peak. Although it would have been the best to go there early in the morning we couldn't bother to wake up that early to see the sunrise and also the weather wasn't optimal (it was raining). So we got there in the late morning and hiked up to the peak to see the crater. The second stop of the day was Jeongbang waterfalls and Cheonjiyeon waterfalls which is right next to each other. Both of these waterfalls are really impressive and a must see when visiting Jeju.

A must eat in Jeju- Hallabong (it is a mandarin orange that only grows in Jeju) Ice-cream

I loved the flora in Jeju- all these tropical plants made me forget that I was still in Korea

We had sushi and a cold raw fish soup for dinner- the sushi was nice but the fish soup had sea squirt in it which I'm definitely not a fan of

Jeju- part 1

I'm finally posting my impression from the beautiful Jeju island. It has been almost a month since I've visited but I'm leaving Korea already in 2 weeks and also have finals, so my life has been super stressful. Me and my friend flew to Jeju on the 12th of November and landed at night. The first thing we did there, was to eat the infamous Jeju black pork and as one would've guessed it was delicious!! We rented a car and where able to drive around the whole island. The first stop of our journey was the Manjanggul Cave which was a really interesting experience, it was pouring rain on that day and it even rained into the cave. Although it was cold and wet I would still highly recommend going! After that we just stopped at a random part of the coastal area in the east because at that time the rain had stopped and we just walked and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

Delicious black pork!

The largest lava column in the world!

Although we went in November the weather was still very mild

Very cool and modern architecture everywhere in Jeju

All the banchans in Jeju are mostly from the sea- I had 전복죽 for the first time which is abalone porridge
